Go Fast: Apparent Speed vs. AARO's Assessment
The AARO case resolution report for the 'Go Fast' video addresses both how the footage appeared and what AARO's analysis concluded. This comparison draws both sides from the same AARO report.
Appearance described in the footage
The AARO report acknowledges that the object in the 2015 Navy FLIR video had the appearance of moving at high speed.
AARO's assessment (February 2025)
AARO assesses with high confidence that the object did not move at anomalous speeds. After compensating for wind, its speed was approximately 2 m/s (5 mph) to 41.3 m/s (92 mph) at roughly 13,000 feet altitude. AARO attributes the apparent high speed to motion parallax — an optical effect in which a slow-moving object viewed from a moving platform appears to move much faster.
